Title: New Year weekend
Post by: Donn Nay on December 07, 2015, 08:30:59 am
so what are people's plans for the 3 day weekend?

Trying to organize a group of family and friends to go to Teagle Wash. We're about 90% committed assuming our next granddaughter arrives on time (Matt and Taylor are expecting baby Hayden 12.23.15).

We are going out for New Years for sure. There is a shinny new (Almost, only about 10 hours on it) KX 85 that needs to be ridden after Christmas! :-)
It was bought new 3 months ago.
I have about 300 miles on the new turbo and so far so good. First riding trip in over 2 years! We are heading out on Thursday morning so it will be a 4 day trip for us. It will be nice to get out and ride and camp with everyone again.

AWESOME! Nate, Degan, Luke can all ride together! The up and coming Viewie Young Guns!

So the plan is shaping up. Cousin Chuckie's cousins (long story, Curtin family thing) are going out Monday after Christmas. The plan is to camp along Teagle Wash road at the spot that Co Cal or Checkers usually camp for any of the Teagle Wash races. If that is taken then along Pipeline. I should know by Tuesday where they are and will post it here. If there are not any Viewie signs up yet there will be "Bert's camp" or "Toys R Us" signs. Cousins are The Bertolette family. As of now we're heading out Thursday afternoon/evening but if I can swing it we'll leave before that. Kyle and family are driving out after work Thursday.

Hope we get a good turnout, should be fun. If there's a good response we can organize a New Years Brunch.

camp is on Teagle Wash Road, about 1/4 mile off Trona, where the road dips down into the wash. Some refer to it as Checker Camp as that's where they usually camp for races at Teagle Wash. We're heading out Thursday morning, probably arrive about noon.

Great thanks Donn! I have a few more people coming out as well. Some Thursday and some Friday. Heading out Thursday morning as early as possible as well. I will bring as much wood as I can.

Funny story.

So I am trying to get everything ready for the trip. My bike hasn't been started since Thanksgiving 2013! I drained the gas and put in a couple of gallons of fresh gas. The thing started on the 2nd kick! BUT it wouldn't rev up at all and would barely stay running. I am trying to figure out if the jets are plugged but it doesn't really feel like that. Did the air filter decompose and just isn't letting any air through? I looked back and there isn't any smoke in the air when I figured there would be based on how it is running. Choke on and off doesn't really make a difference. What the hell is wrong with this thing? I look back again and this time down at my silencer.

OH CRAP! I forgot to take out the plug from when I washed it, no wonder it was running like crap. With the plug out, she is purring just like she always has. Nice slow idle without dieing and everything.

Just thought I would share so you could have a laugh at my expense. :-)

Also Steve and Betty and the Jenkins. Gary said he might but haven't heard back for sure. I heard rumors Gumby might show up but haven't heard lately on that one either. My friend that is coming in the morning has two younger kids as well. My friend coming Friday has older boys. Should be a fun weekend!

Looks like we are going our Martin Luther King weekend too in case anyone wants to join us.

It was a great weekend and I wish we could have had more of you out there! We had a good size group, it was the Nays clan, Steve & Betty, Dee, Josh & James, Julian & Gumby, Chucky & his family, and us from the club. We also had a couple of Chuckies cousins as well as two families of my friends. Of course with all that, we also had lots of dogs there too! :-)

The nightly campfires were lots of fun and I think we went through around two large bottles of Steve's special brew. Betty also made some REALLY awesome "desserts" that were SO good, thank you again Betty!
We drove over to the Husky Saturday and ended up seeing Dave, Darrel and Brian there. Man that place has grown since the last time I was there. Lots of hanging out and relaxing but I think the kids had a pretty good time riding around camp. I took all of them except two on a ride over to the train tunnel Sunday morning.

It was great to hang out with everyone for the New Years!

Here are a few pictures from our ride to the tunnel.

I always try to make it a point of taking the kids out on a ride. Josh and I also took them out on Saturday and did a nice loop up towards the hills and back. Nate loves night riding so he and I did a loop around Teagle wash Friday night and then he did a lot of riding Saturday night by himself around camp. I always stop and ask him to show me where camp is to make sure he knows how to get back to camp by himself. Even at night he could point out camp from across the valley. Always need to teach them the basics. :-)
