Title: A Viewfinder in Afganistan
Post by: Bill McInnes - D37 Rep on February 20, 2010, 10:06:47 am

As some of you know my son is in the Army and was scheduled to go to Afghanistan at some point.
Well he is there now. It took over 10 days to get him to his final destination but he is there.
Many of you have expressed the desire to want to know his mailing address once it is finalized.

PFC McInnes, Tyson
A-CO 1-187 3rd BCT 101ABN
FOB BORIS
APO AE09311

He has already been using the sticker packet that the club donated and will need more.
The Army has sent a list of items that the solders could use but Ty would love to have old Cycle news,
Dirt bike magazines as well as cards and letters. He has already made contact with others that know of
off roading and would love to see these as well.

That's all I have for now I will post other info as soon as I can.

Flat Tire Bill

Here's the latest update.
To get a loan these days for a new bike especially for active military person that happens to be stationed
in a war zone isn't too easy. We looked at a new KTM 300 XC and are presently in a circle and hold
pattern until the military credit union opens back up tomorrow morning. Plus the used bike that he was
going to buy was sold this morning. So right now he's kinda bummed.
Title: Re: A Viewfinder in Afganistan

What's he want and what's his budget? I'll be glad to look around for oppurtunities for the boy.
Title: Re: A Viewfinder in Afganistan
Post by: Bill McInnes - D37 Rep on August 27, 2010, 12:30:06 pm
Right now he is pretty much set on the 300 but I would still like to see him find a good used bike.
He has plenty of cash for a decent used bike. We will see how he does today. All the used bikes that
I have be looking at have been hammered. I'm sure there are exceptions. The one that was sold before
we could get back to it would have been great for him. So our quest continues.

Ty has a bike. He bought a used 05 Honda 450f. He got a bunch of extra stuff with it.
He rode a MX down at Cahuilla on Saturday and spent the rest of the day and Sunday with
his mom and sister and niece. So today he is prepping and getting ready to go riding again.
Where I have no idea he took off.

He got the R. Its a nice bike. Its had the suspension done, gearing, pipe, all the pretty MX stuff.
He got a good deal on it. He got it from a senior mx rider that just tinkers on it and hardly rode it.
I look forward to riding it.

alright this is what happened....... i was cleaning the inside of my truck out (yes dad i was actually cleaning something dont have a heart attack) and i had to get some grenades from under the seat and i had the mount for our .50 cal machine gun on top of the rear ac/heater unit. and attached to mount was the ammo cage for holding the ammo cans. well i lifted up the mount and cage and leaned it over onto the internal fire suppression system and was leaning over to get more stuff under the seat when the cage fell and nailed me dead center on the top of my head. i didnt even know i was bleeding till i put my hand on my head and noticed it was covered in blood and blood started to run down my forehead. and then i got 3 staples in my head. and i still have all my hair. none got shaved off. almost lost it though.

Brett Huntzinger was on KSBY news as a 'soldier returning home' to San Luis Obispo last night on the train. He is home for 30 days before he goes back east to his base. He has 1 1/2 years left, but will not be going back to Afganistan. A large crowd was @ the train station when he came in and they got a police escort back home to Nipomo. Way COOL!!! KJ

VERY COOL glad you're home Brett.

Thank you for your service.

Every returning vet. should get this kind of treatment. I'm sure Steve is quite proud.

Welcome Home Brett and Thank You for your service! I still have this great 11x14 photo of you that was used in D37's booth at a couple of motorcycle shows.  I have had it in our trailer for awhile thinking I would run into you or your Dad.. I will mail it!  Glad to hear you're home safe and sound kiddo  :)

I wondered where the Hunzingers went. I didn't even know Brett enlisted. Good for him.

That's good to hear as well. When I visited Steve a couple years ago for a tour of his shop/bikes he said Brett was having some "issues" and was about to join the service, sounds like he's getting it all worked out.

By the way if you're ever up on the Central Coast you really need to call Steve and go see the bikes he's working on. Unbelievable; we were lucky enough to be there when he had THE World's Fastest Indian bike there for some work (the actual bike Burt Monro built)
