It's not hard per se. I've ridden most of the trails they use, like Redonda Ridge, etc. It's just LONG. I've never done it but talked to a lot that have and you need to start EARLY and keep a good pace with minimal stops.

Aaron, you heard Donn,  will have to start early  and not stop so much.

Let me know.

You guys really should do this. I know a lot of the riders that have a plaque and they are average riders so you will not have a problem, unless Aaron needs too many "pit stops".

I have done this ride and its a ball buster. Yes I have the finisher plaque somewhere. Good luck
to those those that want to do this. All I can say is that it is all day of Barney miles with no breaks.

Come on Flat, can't be that tough. My brother rode it last year and almost got the plaque.  Just pin it to win it! that's my motto   ???  Oh wait that's not my motto, mine is OFF THE THROTTLE AND ON THE BOTTLE!   :o

Ok. You guys scared me out of it.

Its NOT that tough of a ride, just alot of miles to do in a day if you do all the hard ways, NOT saying its easy either.
Go and do it, if things get too late, you have options to do the easy way or pavement.

We know you don't need any help with a bad idea. Now go for it but don't take the 650, you need the lightest bike you've got with a plate. Can you put a plate on Jenny's bike? The 200 would be perfect.

Jen's bike is a true dual sport with the full baja kit. Not just the plate like the rest of my bikes.

Jen's bike would be pretty good Aaron, there aren't too many whoops so the limited suspension won't be much of a penalty and the light weight won't wear you out.

JUST DO IT!

COOL.We love Big Bear so a great excuse to come up.Maybe we could help if you need fuel or something on the trail.

I would love to try it myself, but i know for sure my xr650L is not the right bike for it.Plus its not even paid off yet,it might get destroyed out there.

I know you I make it look easy but that thing is really hard to ride in those conditions, also I look like a monkey #%*£?¥# a football when I ride that bike.

So what bike will you ride? Certainly not the BRP! You will NOT be happy riding that by about 2:00 P.M. Ask Sir Charles, we bailed on some hard ways in Sequoia Saturday for fear he would not be able to start the 650 if he stalled in a bad spot.

Yes I will be riding the XR Valdez.  XR 650's don't start well.  The 600 is much better. It starts right up even after crashing and breaking your right foot.

At Terry's request I will do this.

Ride report...

There were alot of rocks.  The End!

Well not really.  There was slightly more to the story than that.  We set out at 6 AM because they told us that there was no chance that we would make it to the finish by the 7 PM cut off.  The morning took us out towards Landers via a really interesting wash with water flowing at least half of the way down.  The afternoon took us up the John Burr Trail which in recent times seems to have become a parking lot for the sort of people who think that four wheeled vehicles are cool.   We had to zig zag between Jeeps which at caused me too completely cook the XR.  It overheated to the point that it wouldn't run anymore.  It took about 30 minutes before it would start again.  Then I made it about 5 more miles before I crashed and somehow derailed my chain.  Luckily I was at the one place that I could be sure that Viewfinders would be there to see me.  (Terry and Cynthia)  The course just got rockier and rockier until the point when Jim's front axle suddenly chose a new home instead of the it's previous location which was holding his front wheel on.  We bent some some stuff back until the bike was almost rideable but Jim had to turn out on an easy route about 8 miles from the finish.  I have to give the guy credit.  He really hung on even being out of shape (according to him) and he would have made if if not for the sudden bike failure.  He insisted I go on when he went back to camp.  The course smoothed out just after the 199 mile mark (the end where we got to get on pavement again).  Interesting time.  You all should try it next year.

Aaron, use the other picture I sent you.  I have to agree with Charlie, Aaron is one tough S.O.B. I  may have had to wait here and there but Aaron never stopped trying.. He was so focus on getting a plaque nothing was going to stop him. I was worried afterwards as he appeared delerious at times, but he made on a 2000 Honda xr600.  Thanks for the good ride Aaron, next time I'll tighten the axle nut so he doesn't come off. ''..

Obama was concerned about how my finish would affect his reelection hopes...  He figured that since he has been a huge failure yet they still have "Yes we did!" bumper stickers it might bring up negative thoughts in the minds of voters being seen next to someone who actually can say "Yes I did!"  about something he set out to do.   He opted to go on an expensive trip at the expense of the taxpayers instead.

Was Devi's Hole too deep to ride across? I've only been across it once and that was in July and not a real wet year; we all rode across after I found out WHERE to cross, the group I was with had never been there before, interesting.

Well, a few riders rode through it, but I would say it was around 3 to 3.5 ft. deep. Almost up to the engine, so me and Aaron played it safe and walked the bikes. It was to far into the ride  to drown our bikes.

There are great dual sport tires.  Weird not being able to slide the rear end though.

It takes some getting used to but once you do, riding DS on one is great, ask C.B.
