Title: Kennedy Mdws Camping
Post by: Dave Springer on June 07, 2015, 05:57:42 pm
I just read on the D37 message board that the forest service has closed the gate into Troy Overflow camping loop and will be putting a gate up at the Fish Creek overflow.  They want to force everyone into the pay camping and will only open the overflows if the paid camping sites are full.  They just can't leave things alone.

yes, agree, not the first choice for our group, too many rules in the improved campground. When we were there I'll bet the camp host came by three times a day and there was always some reason to "talk" nice guy and all but good grief! And heaven forbid if your knobbies touch dirt within the campground; we unloaded out of the toyhauler onto the dirt and were told that was strictly forbidden, were just pushing the bikes. 10:00 P.M. curfew for noise means no late night campfires.

So far it sounds like Fish Creek overflow is still open; will hear more after the 7.4.15 weekend, might want to consider moving there. I've blocked that weekend out on the control tower's calendar, as well as Pine Flat weekend, so should be good to go.

Will be fun to ride with you again Al, hope no puking this time! My plan is to escape early Friday, hope to be up there well before dark. I think Fish Creek overflow is the destination, still trying to confirm with Tyson from DMC how it was last weekend.

Bryan will be there late Friday afternoon.  He was up there two weeks ago and camped at Corral Meadow.  Bonnita Meadow is also very nice and closer.  He talked to  Charlie and Charlie mentioned he would like to camp at Bonnita Meadow.    Directions from Troy Meadow Campground are:
Continue on past  Troy Meadow campground three miles to the Black Rock Station intersection.  Turn Left on Sherman Pass Road.  Go approximately
9 miles until you get to Forest Service Road #22S41  .  It is pretty much the only dirt road that you can turn right on.  Continue on this dirt road approximately one mile and half to the meadow ( camp site)

Sandy is correct we will camping and staging in Bonita Meadow this will put us more in the hart of the good trails that are not bet to death, as some of you know the 4 or 5 miles of trail in and out of Troy Meadows is complete junk . We will do a quick club meeting Saturday night there are a few things to go over. I will be heading up Friday morning and hope to be there around noon, I will put arrows up starting at Troy Meadow at major turns.
I hope to see a good showing of club members.

Lets ride!!

Clearance from the control tower et al for free day tomorrow. Heading up sometime in the morning, will be a bit behind you CB (I do have some work to do when I get there but what better place to do work than from my RV in the pines?).

See y'all in the mountains!

Kennedy update: we had 6 show up Max Eddie showed up after we left I was not aware he was coming so he rode with another grow camped next to us. We had Donn, Brian, Gumby , Al and myself Good times for sure the new camping location at 8300 feet was beautiful with a 100 year old cabin across the meadow I will never go to Troy again it is worth the extra drive, some rode more than others I myself went swimming twice in the same creek crossing everyone else did not want to get wet-Pussys!! Lord knows Gumby should have that boy needed to clean up he also went down twice, Brian should have but just ended up with a bruised chest Donn and Al ran out of steam. No meeting Saturday as there was not enough members but a good time was had by all.

Spectacular place to camp. Not riding or exercising for months is not a good combination with trying to ride Rattlesnake at 8,000 ft! But still had a great time, if you missed it you missed a FUN weekend, even if I had to work some Friday it was a pretty place to do it.
