Title: Comp Committe Meetings - April 2007
Post by: Donn Nay on April 23, 2007, 04:59:58 pm
Just thought you would like to read these. You'll see some minor rule changes will affect our race.

District 37 Competition Committee
Meeting for April 12, 2007

I   Meeting called to order by Richie Wohlers, District Referee

II   Attendance taken by Sheri Kibbe. Stewards present are Heather Gongora, Devon Rich, Ryan Wilson, Keith DeJongh, Doug Phelan and Dan Barnett. Guests present are Robert Matthas, Art Foreman, Hoace Vega, Dave Oakleaf, Jannean Sapp, Jerry Grabow and Ryan Kudla

III   The following Clubs/Riders have been requested to appear before the Competition Committee to discuss or provide input concerning the following:

1.   United MC: Request to host an event on the same weekend as the 4 Aces previously had before their event was cancelled. UMC would like to award Enduro points for their event even though it will not be an Enduro type event. It will have the same format as the most recent Checkers event with a timed, by class start (no mass start) and a timed finish. There were no objections to awarding Enduro points. This event will pay desert and Enduro points.
2.   Hilltoppers MC: Submitted a flier for approval last month, but the flier had already appeared in the newsletter. Hilltoppers MC presented a copy of an e-mail showing that the flier had been approved via e-mail. Sound testing was conducted at their event on Friday, but not the rest of the weekend. Dave Oakleaf called 7 people to do sound testing and could not get anyone to do it. Dave couldn?t do it because he was referee and was needed elsewhere. He was able to get a hold of Tracy McKissick who said she would do it, but then didn?t show. They were not able to get anyone else on short notice. Hilltoppers MC will have a $500 suspended fine given that they comply next year. Motion passed. Devon Rich motions to allow ?hired? sound testers to receive work points, up to 3 people (one certified), including non club members. Workers will receive points at the club referee?s discretion. Second by Heather Gongora. Unanimous in favor of. This rule will be amended and effective immediately.
3.   Big6 GP: Request to change the lwt 200 class from 0-200 to 86-200cc?s. At the Prairie Dogs race, there were 12 year old on 65cc bikes racing with Open Experts on 450cc bikes. These are unsafe conditions. Motion by Dan Barnett, second by Richie Wohlers to change the class effective January 2008. Unanimously in favor of. Motion passed.  Bill Bateman will be asked to flag those riders so that they will not be allowed to ride in the lwt class. Until 2008, the hosting referee can opt to not allow mini riders to participate in the lwt class.
4.   Discussion: Riders are asking to carry over their transfers when moving to another class for example, from the vet class to the senior class. Everyone is in agreement on that. Zero numbers, by themselves can look confusing. In 2008, Stewards shall not issue #0 as the requesting riding number. Ryan Kudla is inquiring about the GP?s issuing the colored backgrounds to correspond with their riding skill level. The Big6 is going to present this in a couple of months. This is to help keep riders of lower skill levels from starting on the wrong line with other more advanced skill levels. Richie would like to remind Stewards that they are representing D-37 when they are racing. When an issue arises, you may need to back off a bit.
5.   Fliers to be reviewed:
a.   VCMC: need to add ?no quad riders under 16?, ?class determined b engine size?, the District 37 web address, ?no three wheelers?.
b.   Prairie Dogs: okay
IV   Meeting adjourned 9:41pm

Why colored backgrounds? Isn't that the purpose of our colored bars??? ie red, yellow, green and clear/ white  Just curious, KJ

Keith - colored backgrounds for the GP help with staging and most importantly to keep riders jumping up a line. When a dez racer pie plates a GP they are given a printed number with a little round color dot.  Very easy to jump a line since the colors (especially yellow are VERY hard to see).  This happens even with the colors bars. Didn't know they were thinking aout doing this, but I can't tell you how many times I have not known the skill leverl of a pie plater coming thru on a GP course with the little dots and it seems like a large percentage of GP riders feel they do not have to run their color bars.
