2016 President

« : December 13, 2015, 01:06:13 pm »

Hello all Viewies,

I just wanted to finally check in as your new President.  I can only hope to uphold the standard the previous presidents have set forth.  I owe Charlie a debt of gratitude for the outstanding job he did leading our club.  My plan is to imitate what Charlie, Chris, and Norm have done prior to me (I only mention them as they were only presidents since my being voted in).  They were all excellent leaders, and I know that it will only be possible with your help.  I am looking forward to 2016 and hope to be in the desert again soon.  I don't know if I will be racing or even riding any time soon with my recent and ongoing knee issue.  Either way I will be making some trips out to be with my Viewfinder family.

My thoughts are to have our first club meeting at Four Aces.  I am not sure of the date, as I have not seen a calendar for next years race schedule.  My plan is to have 3 meetings prior to our GP.  If issues arise that require more, then we will have them.

I would like the Destination Ride program to continue, it was great for getting folks out to the desert.  If someone could take the lead for this it would be appreciated.

I am exited to be the President of our club, and look forward to seeing you out in the desert!

Congrats Hudy, I'm sure you'll do a great job.  The club is behind you all the way, with emphasis on the "behind" : )  And as secretary, I will be there to talk notes, but not while sitting on your lap.

Thanks Hudy, I know I will help as much as I can for sure. 4 Aces is the 27th & 28th. I am hoping for 2016 to be much different than the last couple of years for me. I am way out of shape and haven't ridden in 2 years so it will be slow move towards getting back into racing for me. But I do plan on getting out hopefully once a month at least.

I think one of the most important things for our club for 2016 is to get participation back up. We can't attract new members when there is one camper with one flag out there for sure. This has been the struggle for many years but this is the biggest challenge and a really crucial one at this point for our club as I see it. There were to many members not at the GP this year and if the decline continues we won't have enough people to put our race on next year.

So I hope you are up for the task! :-)

Participation on the forum here is really low but I think a good start is to get an idea of what everyone's plans are for 2016.

P.S. I attached the 2016 Tentative schedule which is posted in a thread on the D37 site.

Funny, I don't remember voting you in as president?! Too many Piper margaritas? Yes, declining membership is not what we want. I hope the destination Ride program continues, as that was very successful in bringing out great people to the desert for some super fun weekends this past season. It's great to have the Donn Nay Supercross show on the big screen, bonfire and great energy all weekend with a crew of Viewies. I sincerely hope that continues as it was/is fun for me and fun for Soren to be a part of, and for it to be an integral part of his youth.
I'm a bit puzzled at the lack of a final schedule on the part of D37; especially since it's 2 weeks to 2016. Also, no Jackrabbits as the season opener is a bit like the sun not rising. Disturbing. It's something you can count on to kick off the year with all clubs and most racers showing up for the opener.
My plan is to race as much as I can in '16, and am psyched to repeat spring '15 with Soren as my camping/MC companion, able to hang and ride with his fellow viewee buddies as well (Maddox, Shyla, Deegan).
Let's get out there and make it happen. I know you will lead us well Hudy.
Thanks, Nils

I've got your back Hudy.

Four Aces is a couple of weeks earlier than usual so that's a good one to kick things off. Suggest we pick the other meeting dates soon so everyone can plan accordingly. We typically get more participation at Red Mountain but might want to consider more at J.V. to pull in the southern members (Hollisters, Thorntons, etc.).

Another thought I had is to consider some non-motorcycle get activities. Was just looking at photos from a couple of clubs that have Christmas parties. Dirt Diggers make it a weekend by doing their hwy cleanup. So Cal meets at Nasif's and does a ride too. Big Bear Trail Riders (dual sport) meet at the Nicholson's house. Unfortunately as spread out as we all are it makes that stuff harder. I'd certainly be willing to host a Christmas party next year if anyone's interested.

Also we need to do a play day this year. Calendar is not as full as in years past so finding an open weekend should not be as hard. It was really fun when Jenkins and Barneys had them but that is a big imposition for sure. We do have some options though in the desert such as Gordon's land west of 395, the airport again or maybe Teagle Wash since they have permanent outhouses and its open riding, might need a permit but should be easy to get.

Thoughts anyway.

Hudy I will assist where I can, you are welcome to give a call one evening and we can go over some of the in's and out's of what I learned last year as Pres. I will send you the by-laws so you can bring yourself up to speed. If the next month or goes well for Darlene we would be open to a Barneyland get together.
