Hey Viewies - A great weekend in the dez.  Dirt Diggers put together a decent short course with some really fast sections broken up by some technical and the usual hinky Red Mtn bomb run.  We headed out Friday night and met up with Brian "Cactus/2 Turn" and Brian "Sandbagger" from Bishop along with their families.  Stayed up late Friday night getting acquainted - perfect clear evening made for some good star gazing.  On Saturday, the Diggers put together an awesome kid event - actual bomb run, checks, finisher pins and raffle. We headed over to check out Dirt Digger Terry's baby shower and happened upon Steve Freeman's 60th Birthday party in the Digger camp. We spent some time there wishing Steve a Happy Birthday with some Jello Shots. :)  It got late on us pretty quick on Sat night and by the time we finished dinner and visiting with Mike & Michael Hastings, Jonesy rolled into camp.

After some quick catch up, Deanne Jenkins, Jenn and I decided to hit the Check 5 baby shower.  The Diggers were quite hospitable and made sure our Margaritas were never empty!  We returned to camp sometime Sunday a.m. and Deanne was up and organizing the pits at sunrise!  I'm going off a hazy memory, but I'll give it my best shot as to who was on the pit board:

Mid Life Crisis Max Eddy - Max is running the M1 plate this year, and he finished an impressive 19th o/a and first in class.

Keith Jones - Jonesy had some issues with Check 1 and ended up helping out some riders on the first loop. He decided to go back out for the 2nd loop and get a finish, but unfortunately he had some bike issues and broke down. John, Russ, Mike McD and Max organized a rescue party and were able to get both Keith and bike back to camp with the help of Bill Keys (who just so happened to be driving down Trona Road!)

Russ Jenkins - Russ had the same issues with Check 1 and called it a day with a DNF.

Mike Hastings - Mike turned in a good ride and I know he finished in front of Steve Stacy!

John Hutcherson - Hutch headed out Sat night and it was good to see him back in action. He also had a good ride and should be back out for Racers MC.

James Jenkins - James finished in one piece and looks like he'll place well in his class.

John Gable - Gable just shows up a few times a year out of the blue! He had a decent race, but unfortunately his friend broke his ankle while riding around to spectate.

Prospect Brian "Cactus/2 Turn" - Brian had some issues on the course and in the pits, but he finished.

Prospect Brian "Sandbagger" - This is not my nickname for him, but the other Brian's!  I had to leave the finish to let camp know Keith was broke down, so I'm not sure how he finished.

Michael Hastings - Michael came into the pits with a front flat and decided to call it a day. He had a great race going until the flat.

We met another nice family who camped behind us and their son pitted with us.  Unfortunately, he was t-boned by another rider on the bomb and dropped out of the race with a hurt foot.

Many Thanks to our Pit Crew: Deanne Jenkins and Mike McDonald. John assisted when he could, but was sent out to look for the friend with the broken ankle and to pick up Keith.  Nice work by all and Best of Luck to everyone racing at the Hilltoppers Grand Prix this weekend in 29 Palms!

The only thing that went well for me on Sunday was the rescue effort by all those mentioned  in the above post Some play riders got the effort started by hauling me to Charlie'sPlace.  I am sure the the pit would have gone well, but I had the Exxon Valdes tank between my legs! Bummed w/ no finish :'(

I gather from your post Keith, that your fuel tank split open, or perhaps a broken fuel line????  Sorry to hear that you got stuck out there.

The Exxon Valdes comment was meant for NO pit w/ oversize tank(er). My problem is probably a broken piston ring. Was locked up, then freed up and then no compresson. Still had a 1/2 tank of gas. KJ
ps What's a BETA? A Chinese fighting fish ???

Hey Kandy
Great race update, this is two turns Jones. I would love to finish your update on (sandbagger) Brian was second to last off the bomb and finished 2nd overall Novice and 1st in class vet open. I hope this sheds some light on his nickname. Thanks for the fun weekend Brian (TwoTurns Jones)

I can vouch for the Sandbagger nickname. i thought i will do a "ride along" w/ novice Brain being I was so far off my game. Next thing I know Brian #1 checked out!! And it wasn't because I wasn't trying to keep up. KJ
